Cannot open HydroHubLite on Mac

Question

I recently tried to download HydroHubLite on my macbook (OSX El Capitan), but the app crashes every time I attempt to launch it with the message "HydroHubLite quit unexpectedly." Force quitting and reopening the app does not work. Anyone have any advice?

You may need to approve the application in system preferences.

Otherwise it may be a Java version issue.  Can you run the jar file from terminal using

java -Xmx1024M -jar /Applications/HydroHubLite.app/Contents/Java/HydroHubLite.jar
